June and Anniversary

June the 26th was our 28th anniversay. I always decorate his little blue truck a holiday. Lynn usually forgets that I do that. I put 28 pictures of myself with something written on it.

Andrew

Andrew came to visit us. He just graduated with a Master's from Columbia and will be joining the Peace Corp for a 2 year stint in Togo, Africa. The whole family is so proud of him! We did some tourist type stuff: the Manitou Incline, Barr Trail, Mueller State Park, and Cave of the Winds. I was so glad to see him. He's going to Blog his adventures in Africa so I'll post a link when he starts.

Shower

Last Sunday was the baby shower. Robben got lots of pretty things for Baby G. I painted monkeys on the wall for her. I could have done better I think, but they are OK. Next weekend the pig roast at Robben and Zak's.

motorcycling

A video from the ride that we did with Greg and Margot on a 3 day trip. Great time with the Pitman Posse.

Texas

We went to Texas for my parents 60th wedding anniversary last weekend. Robs and Zak took their car and we rode with them. The party was also for Rae and Tony, their wedding shower. Maggie put the party on at the Pelican restaurant with great food and fun. A friend, Judy, that I have known since I was 5 came, and it was great to see her and her husband after 26 years. Zak had a great time since he did the 3 things he wanted to do: wild pig hunting, Texas BBQ, and swimming.

Anniversary

On June 26th we celebrated our 28th wedding anniversay by going on a motorcycle trip to Taos and Silverton. We had champagne and Lota Burgers in the motel room. On the way to Silverton, Lynn surprised me with a side trip to Chimney Rock Archeology Park to see the ruins. The next night we stayed at the Grand Imperial which is over 100 years old and ate at Romero's. I can't wait for 28 more.

Weekend

This weekend was good. Dave and Elisabeth had us over for dinner Friday night. Food and company was super. Saturday, we threw our day packs in the Cruiser and off we went to Mount Antero for a hike. The day was overcast when we left the car, and after 10 minutes it began to rain and commenced to pour! We went on. We stopped for lunch and found a semi dry spot out of the rain. It was 35 degrees and our hands were freezing. We started back to the warm car. It was still a lot of fun in the cold. The next day, Father's Day, we worked around the 40 acres.

Lake Powell

Dave and Elisabeth invited us to Lake Powell for a 4 day weekend on their beautiful houseboat. Of course we went. 5 years ago was the last time we were there. It was a great weekend with lots of sun. The water was still too cold, but Lynn and Dave dared each other so they both jumped off the end of the boat. Dave even got Lynn to do it a second time. It must be a guy thing. We were tied to their buoy so guess what I had to hurl off the side of the boat. Dave graciously pulled into a little cove and tied us to the rocks and I was fine. Sorry about that guys. We did a tour in the pantoon boat and had lunch on a sandy beach courtesy of Dave. That night we had 2 mallard ducks that were staring at us at the end of the boat begging like Kimo does with his unflinching stare. It was a wonderful trip with good food and friends.

The Baby's Room

The Room

Baby G's room needed to be painted so off we went to help. Zak was on a manly man camping trip along with 2 of the dogs. Robs and I got it done while Lynn did some electrical work plus put a a chair togher for her. Kimo went with us which is not usually the case, because he is getting cranky in his old age. Molly, who stayed behind to guard Robben, and Kimo have a history together. I saved her from the side of the road, and she and Robben bonded. Kimo did try to eat Chloe, the cat, but other than that it went well. Chloes' fine.

Birthday

Lynn played hooky again for my birthday. Work has been slow as all you know. We were off on the motorcycle for the day. We rode through Decker and Salida. Stopped in Morrison, a town that was around with the Mountian Men, and had a beer in a cool little Mexican place. Ended up in Elbert, a very small town, at the Biker Bar which is a hoot to go to. Lynn made steak and Bernaise for me when we got home. He gave me 2 beautiful pairs of earrings and new car mats for Minnie Me, my 1991 Miata. It was a great day!!! (except for turning 59)

Sad

I added a new link on the blog. I have been very saddened about puppy mills and want to share it with my friends. The horrible lonely life of being in a cage until they are no longer useful. Please don't buy from a pet store. Adopt or buy from a backyard breeder.

On the Road Again!

The Pitman Posse (us, Greg, and Margot) about a week ago played hooky and took off for a motorcycle ride. The weather was great and so was the company. We explored the Beckwith ranch that is an historic site as it was built in the 1860's. Although the home, barns, and outbuildings are being restored, little has been done on the inside of the main residence. How do I know? Well Margot and I found a door that was not locked, and we went in to see if there were any ghosts. My camera forgot to come with me so there are no pictures of the spirits.

Chaco

Lynn planned the trip to Chaco, New Mexico for May the 23rd. It's great being retired! Chaco was the hub of the Anasazi Culture. We were there 23 years ago when Robben was 2 and a half so it was time to go back now that we could hike around a lot. We spent 2 nights in the campground and the last night we went to a hotel, cause we were so dirty from the sunscreen caked with dirt. The round holes are Kivas where they gathered together for day to day activities as well as for religious ceremonies.

Easter

Hi to all. Hope everyone had a great Easter. We went up to Zak's and Robs the day before and spent the night. They had a wedding to go to out of town so they spent the night there since it would be late coming home. I did some cleaning for them, because Robben was told to limit her activity for a few weeks. We thought about having a wild party, but instead walked across the street to the local bar with Matt and had a burger as we watched the drunks. Peter and Libby along with Eleonor were coming, but Libby was sick and Peter slid off the road in the snowstorm and wrecked his car so it was just the 4 of us with lots of food. Zak didn't seem to mind eating the 36 deviled eggs. It was a good time. Speaking of good food. Earlier that week we went to a Passover Celebration at our friends home, Mark and Mia. They live behind us, and they have alpacas. Did you know that on Passover each Jewish person is required to drink 4 glasses of wine? The 4 glasses symbolizes the 4 promises that God made the Jewish people. Lynn had fun drinking with the Rabbi. The food was super. Mark made the best lamb I've ever had. Needless to say I didn't accept any subbing jobs the next day.

Blizzard

Well, we almost made it to spring weather. Thursday the 26th we had a blizzard with white out conditions. We brought in wood, got extra food, and of course liquor. We spent two days trapped. Saturday we dug out. Then today we had another mini blizzard that lasted for about 4 hours so tonight we'll have to dig out again especially since I am working the next 3 days.

A little burst of springtime

Yesterday it was nice so we got to play outside. I did some beginning yard work. Still a little bit early. Lynn had to get on the tractor and work on the driveway. Had to share the beret pictures with you. I love his smile! His tractor we thought was made 1947, but when he ordered parts for it, we discovered that it was built in 1932. Back to the beret. There's a guy who writes for a motorcycle magazine, Emmit Salvadori. He's about our age and he writes especially about his trips. His trademark is his beret so Lynn decided to try one.

Hiking in the Hayman Fire Burn Area

On Tuesday we played hooky again. We decided to go to Lost Creek Wilderness Area. It's been at least 10 years since we have been there. In 2002 there was a huge forest fire (the biggest in Colorado History). Luckily, Lost Creek was spared. The picture is what it looked like on our way there. Once we got to Lost Creek it was beautiful like an oasis.
